People Categories and Searching for People in SteepleMate

SteepleMate provides a robust system for categorizing individuals and organizations, enabling churches to streamline communication, create directories, and generate reports tailored to specific groups. This guide explains how to use the system to manage people categories, search for individuals, and export or update your church directory.

People Categories in SteepleMate

SteepleMate allows you to classify individuals and organizations into the following categories:

Category or Person Type
Description
Church Family

Regular attendees considered part of the congregation.

Contacts

Individuals who may or may not attend and could reside outside the area.

Guests

People who have attended and are on track to becoming part of the church.

Organizations

Churches, ministries, or other organizations associated with the church.

Vendors

Businesses or individuals the church works with (e.g., florists, coffee shops).

Other

Individuals or companies that do not fit into any other categories.


Notes

Active vs. Inactive Status

In addition to categories, individuals can be tracked as Active or Inactive, indicating whether they are currently involved with the church. This information can be found under the Dates Section of a person’s profile.

Searching for People in SteepleMate

  1. From the Left Navigation Menu, select Manage > People.

  2. Choose the person type you want to search for: church family, contacts, guests, etc. 

  3. Apply additional filters:
    1. Include or exclude Inactive or Deceased individuals.
    2. Search by First Name or Last Name.

  4. Click the dark blue Search button to generate results.

Viewing Results

  1. Default List View: Displays a simple list of the selected people types.

  2. Light Blue “View in Grid” Option: Opens a grid view where you can:
    1. Quickly update data in bulk.
    2. Save changes directly from the screen.
    3. Export the data to CSV or Excel for further analysis.


Using the Church Directory


You can also view your church directory:
1. From the Left Navigation Menu, select Manage > Church Directory.


2. Select the type of people you want to include (e.g., Church Family, Guests, Contacts, etc.).
3. The directory will display results based on your selected criteria, similar to the People Management screen.




Exporting and Bulk Updates

  1. Use the Grid View to export individuals or organizations:
    1. Click the Export button to save data in CSV or Excel format.


  2. In the grid view, you can:
    1. Make changes to data fields for multiple individuals.
    2. Save updates directly to the system.
