How to Add and Use Tags in SteepleMate

How to Add and Use Tags in SteepleMate

Tags in SteepleMate help you organize records, quickly find the right people or families, and create reports based on shared labels. You can apply tags to an individual person or to an entire family, then use Tag Search to locate and export those records later.

Add a Tag to a Person or Family

To add a tag to a person or family profile:

  1. In the left navigation menu, go to Manage.

  2. Select People.

  3. Search for and open the person you want to update.

  4. At the top of the profile, you will see two sections:

    • Person tile for the individual

    • Family tile for the household

  5. In the appropriate tag field, enter the tag you want to assign.

    • Use the Person section to tag only that individual.

    • Use the Family section to tag the entire family.

  6. Click Save.

Your tag is now attached to that record.

When to Use Person Tags vs. Family Tags

Use a Person tag when the label applies to one specific individual, such as:

  • Volunteer

  • Small Group Leader

  • Construction Crew

Use a Family tag when the label applies to the household as a whole, such as:

  • First-Time Guest Family

  • Mission Supporters

  • Foster Family

Add a Tag to a Task

To add a tag to a task:

  1. From your Dashboard, locate the Tasks tile and click Manage Tasks.

  2. Select the task subject to view/open the task.

  3. Add a tag in the Tags field and click Save.

Search by Tag

After tags have been added, you can search and report on them.

  1. In the left navigation menu, go to Administration.

  2. Select Tag Search.

  3. Choose the Tag Type you want to search:

    • Person

    • Family

    • Task

  4. In the Tags field, enter or select the tag you want to search for.

  5. Click Search.

SteepleMate will return a list of all records with that tag assigned.

View Tag Search Results

From the results screen, you can:

  • Review the list of matching people, families, or tasks

  • Expand a result to see tag details

  • View who added the tag

  • See the tag date

  • Open the related person record

Export Tag Results

Tag search results can also be exported for reporting or follow-up.

From the results screen, click Export to download the list in a format such as:

  • PDF

  • Excel

  • CSV

Available export options may vary based on your setup.

Best Practices for Tags

  • Use clear, consistent naming so reports stay clean and easy to search.

  • Decide ahead of time whether a tag should be used at the person level or family level.

  • Avoid creating multiple versions of the same tag with slightly different wording.

Tags in SteepleMate make it easier to organize records, filter groups, and export useful reports. Add tags from the person or family profile, then use Administration > Tag Search to find and export tagged records.
